Walker County Chamber of Commerce

Walker County seeks to become
Entrepreneur Friendly

As part of an effort to spur local development, many of Georgia's communities are working hard to earn the distinction of an "Entrepreneur Friendly Community" from the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD). The Walker County Chamber of Commerce has led the charge to gain this distinction for our community. While the process is just beginning, the hope is that, within 18 months, Walker County will be promoted as a great place for small business and entrepreneurs.

There are approximately 500,000 incorporated businesses in Georgia. Of those businesses, 97.5% are categorized as small by the Federal Government. 95% employ fewer than 50 people and 50% employ under 5. In other words, small business is “big business” in Georgia.

The goal of the "Entrepreneur Friendly" initiative is to help communities in Georgia establish an entrepreneur support program, enhance relationships with state and federal resource providers, and educate the community about the benefits of supporting local businesses. The GDEcD has been providing community-based programming since 2004 when Governor Sonny Perdue made entrepreneurship and small business development a priority for the state.

As we begin to move forward through the Entrepreneur Friendly designation process, please lend your support to this initiative that is destined to be a “win-win” for our community. If you are interested in being a part of this designation process, please contact the Chamber.
