Entrepreneur Development Certificate Program
The Walker County Chamber of Commerce and the Dalton Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will present an Entrepreneur Development Certificate Program during September 2008 at the Walker County Civic Center.

The business consultants of The University of Georgia SBDC will help attendees increase their chances for success in business by offering classes in specialized subjects for experienced entrepreneurs, as well as management basics for those considering starting a business in Georgia. The program will consist of five courses.
  • “Starting Your Own Business” and “Marketing Your Business,” make up the foundation of the program and will be taught on Tuesday, September 9 at a cost of $70
  • “Finding Money for Your Business” on Thursday, September 11 at a cost of $40
  • “Managing by the Numbers” on Tuesday, September 16 at a cost of $40
  • “Writing an Effective Business Plan” on Thursday, September 18 at a cost of $40
Participants who register for the entire series will pay a discounted price of $150 for all courses. A certificate of completion will be awarded to students who complete the entire series.

Valuable recommendations, research ideas, and an overview of seen important areas of business operation are presented from a practical perspective. Tuesday, Aug. 19th, Starting/Marketing Your Business, 5:30-8:45 pm. Topics for discussion include the traits of successful entrepreneur, market research and advertising, legal structures, estimating start-up costs, cash flow projection, financing alternatives, failure factors, and business planning.

Thursday, Aug. 21st, Finding Money For Your Business, 6:00-8:00 pm. Learn how successful borrowers pick the right financing options and make their proposals attractive to funding sources. Topics include financing options such as bank loans, SBA loans, non-bank lenders, private investors, and the myths and realities of grant funding.

Tuesday, Aug. 26th, Managing By The Numbers, 6:00-8:00 pm. Take the mystery out of accounting by learning to read and understand basic financial statements, including the income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement.

Thursday, Aug. 28th, Writing An Effective Business Plan, 6:00-8:00 pm. A business plan is critical to your business success; especially if you need a loan or an investor for your business. Learn what information is required and basic business plan format.

These programs are jointly sponsored by The University of Georgia Small Business Development Center and the U.S. Small Business Administration and offered through a cooperative agreement with Dalton State College.
